Douglas Hotchkiss founded Hotchkiss Insurance in 1975, having earned his CPA in 1968 and previously held senior executive positions in real estate, banking, and finance. Over the course of his career, he has shaped the agency into one of the region's most respected independent insurance firms.

A commitment to developing others runs throughout Douglas's career. He helped found the University of Houston Downtown Insurance and Risk Management Department and served for years on its advisory committee alongside fellow industry leaders. That same investment in people shows up inside Hotchkiss, where he created Hotchkiss Learning to train and develop employees. Today, 95% of the team has earned or is working toward a professional designation through the National Alliance. His generosity extends well beyond the office, too, whether through the mentorship and counsel he offers freely or through Hotchkiss Helps, the giving initiative he founded in 2015 to support organizations and causes across the community.

Douglas holds a degree from Texas A&M University and carries the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations. He has served as vice-chairman of the Hanover National Agents Advisory Council, past chairman of the Board of Governors for The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research and the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, former director of the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas, and is a current trustee of Irving Bible Church.
